Gulf spill helps revive left-for-dead energy legislation
-
By Lisa Mascaro, Tribune Washington Bureau.
Reporting from Washington —
Passing a major energy bill seemed virtually impossible a few weeks ago, but Democrats, bolstered by public anger over the gulf oil spill, are pushing for legislation with renewed hope of success.A new energy bill could be shorn of its most controversial feature — the costly and complex “cap-and-trade” system, which would set a declining limit on emissions from power plants and factories and force emitters to buy permits for the release of heat-trapping gases.
But even without cap and trade, the measure contemplated by Senate Democratic leaders could bring far-reaching change, including new renewable energy requirements, tougher liability caps on oil companies and stronger energy-efficiency measures…

Why does it have to be something Major though? How about instead we try something simple….I don’t know maybe off the top of my head.
Maybe create an agency in the goverment that I don’t know does research into this tech and how it is funded is not by taxing the people but letting them contribute to it and maybe get a tax write off for it.
Isn’t that how Barak Obama got all that money for his campain by relying on the good of the people?Wasn’t it amazing on the amount that was gathered for ONE MAN?
Wouldn’t that be a win-win on all sides. Obama keeps his promise about paying as you go. Get’s the people involved. Gives the Liberals what they want and they can put in on it as well as the enviormentilists.
The Tea Party and just indepents are happy because they ain’t being forced and controled into it.

Obama raised $750 million in about a 21 month span and 153.1 million in Sept.08 alone. Like I said that was just for one man….
People on both Fox and MSNBC was kind of unhappy about what he was saying. Sarah Palin on Fox and Rachel Maddow,Keith Ulberman, Chris Matthews was upset because he wasn’t all gun ho and bringing in more “progress” ;)…… It’s funny how Barak claims thoose or his bills. Everyone knows he didn’t write the health care bill or this Cap and Trade bill. They were handed to him.
Sarah ain’t bad but I do find it kind of odd that everytime she’s on it’s always with a mountain in the backdrop and a lake. It’s probally where she lives but seems like there portraying here as Mother Gaia or something (Being Fair you Liberals out there).
I think it’s the best I have seen him in awhile. The point was trying to calm everybody down and point out what we have in common because things have been getting out of hand of late and some of that is his staffs doing but back to a simple soultion instead of a complex one.

So what if he did open up an agency devoted to finding diffrent agencies backed by donations….and maybe a small percent of the profit from the oil companies to find this.
If he supported something like this all the people would be for it and you would have a pretty nice income and just enviormentilists, Liberals can get behind it even skeptics of the impact on Carbon (wich is .001% man made in the atmosphere) can agree that it ain’t going to last forever.
Oprah and alot of Hollywood types would be behind it to. It would be a way to actually help without dividing us any farther. That and it actually does something without having to print more money or take it from people unwillingly.
Who knows how much could be gathered if they let people from other countries donate. Website with his endorsment…Oprah’s.
Don’t think they would have to figure where to get the money but what to do with it,
750 Million in a Recession for ONE MAN. How much do you think for ONE WORLD?
